Ten minutes away from Argentario Golf - venue of the next Italian Open next June - not far from other beautiful Tuscan courses. Golfers are welcome
September 2024. La Roqqa is a boutique hotel and beach club inside the chic Tuscan seaside town of Porto Ercole. This luxury destination offers a unique experience immersed in the natural beauty of Monte Argentario, where the hotel embodies the ideal of a "contemporary retreat." It provides a seamless blend of meticulously curated hospitality and a relaxed, informal atmosphere, encouraging guests to discover this enchanting island, connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land.
With 55 rooms, the property overlooks a breathtaking landscape where the Mediterranean panorama blends with the charm of a vibrant local community and its millennia-old history. Its privileged
location, just steps from the sea and the lively port, makes La Roqqa an ideal destination for those seeking an exclusive vacation combining nature, relaxation, and culture.
La Roqqa was born from the regeneration of the former Hotel Don Pedro, a project curated by the Milan-based architecture studio Ludovica Serafini + Roberto Palomba. They reinterpreted the
aesthetics of the structure with a contemporary touch while staying true to the historical and cultural roots of the area. The interiors draw inspiration from Tuscan craftsmanship and the iconic
design of 20th-century Italy, featuring local materials such as woven leather, painted plaster, and burnished metal. The colour palette evokes the hues of the Maremma, from golden sands to
blooming fields, and from the shades of the sky to the sea. Every detail of the structure has been designed to create an intimate and welcoming environment. Clean lines and natural materials
bring life to elegant and relaxing spaces, such as the sculptural spiral staircase at the entrance. The custom-made furnishings, enriched with iconic pieces from the '60s and '70s, evoke the
glamorous atmosphere of the era when Porto Ercole first began attracting the international jet set.
The rooms and suites at La Roqqa, spread across five floors, are designed to offer a tranquil refuge after days spent in the sun, sea, and social activities. Each room features a private balcony or terrace with spectacular views of the Porto Ercole bay or the lush vertical gardens surrounding the property. The interiors reflect the colours and textures of the surrounding nature, providing guests with a sensory experience that connects them with the Tuscan landscape. The Caravaggio Suite Penthouse, with over 300 square metres, is a true luxury apartment, ideal for private events, thanks to its four terraces, including a rooftop offering 360° sea views. La Roqqa also offers six other deluxe suites, such as the Mulinaccio Corner Suite, which features a 70-square-metre terrace with a view that extends to the horizon, overlooking the coast and the village of Porto Ercole.
La Roqqa is also a highly successful gastronomic destination, its food and drink philosophy is a natural consequence of Porto Ercole’s charmed location: set on a pristine stretch of Tuscany’s Mediterranean coast, yet enjoying close ties with its fertile agricultural hinterland. Chef Francesco Ferretti offers creative cuisine that showcases the excellence of the region, using fresh, seasonal ingredients. The fine dining restaurant Scirocco, located on the stunning panoramic terrace, features the signature dish “Spaghetti with Eight Tomatoes,” intimately tied to the changing seasons, available only when fresh tomatoes are in season, with subtle variations each month. Its al fresco neighbour, the Rooftop Lounge Bar, is the ideal spot for sipping a cocktail while admiring the sunset over the bay. For a more informal experience, the all-day Mezzanino Bistrot offers light dishes and drinks in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere, the perfect space for socialising or enjoying a moment of tranquillity, while savouring dishes prepared with local, organic ingredients, always in line with La Roqqa's sustainable philosophy.
Isolotto Beach Club, part of La Roqqa, stretches along an entire bay just steps from the hotel. It is a paradise that naturally extends La Roqqa's style and hospitality to the pleasure of a day at the beach. With teak furnishings and terraces overlooking the sea, the club ensures elegance and privacy. The restaurant, also led by Chef Francesco Ferretti, offers a "pieds dans l’eau" menu with cold appetisers, delightful salads featuring local and organic ingredients, and a choice of mixed grills of fish, vegetables, or meat. At sunset, the Beach Club transforms into the perfect place to enjoy an aperitif or dinner, surrounded by the scents and colours of the Mediterranean scrub.
La Roqqa is synonymous with sustainability: it has earned certification from the Considerate Collection of Small Luxury Hotels, thanks to its commitment to the environment and the local community. The hotel promotes responsible tourism with concrete initiatives, such as the use of sustainable materials, reducing plastic usage, and supporting local cooperatives like L'Orto Giusto, which employs young people with disabilities. In line with the group's sustainable philosophy, drinking water in the rooms is filtered to reduce the use of plastic bottles, and guests can take advantage of a fleet of electric bicycles to explore the area. Additionally, La Roqqa collaborates with local communities, offering employment to young local talents and actively participating in projects to support families in need.
The hotel is the ideal starting point for exploring Monte Argentario and the Tuscan Maremma, offering relaxation, sports, and culture. With its strategic location, La Roqqa offers a wide range of activities, including boat excursions on the Fjord 40 Open, customised with La Roqqa's vibrant colours, or diving, food and wine tastings, and guided tours of the region's historical sites.
La Roqqa represents the perfect fusion of luxury, sustainability, and Tuscan tradition, offering an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind stay that combines nature, relaxation, and the charm of this unique region.

Garda Hotel San Vigilio Golf is now the new name for Chervo Golf San Vigilio
The change of name of the prestigious real estate complex, with annexed 36-hole golf course, has been made official.
The Board of Directors of SAN VIGILIO R.E. Spa, headed by President Pietro Apicella together with the directors representing a group of entrepreneurial friends, who have always controlled the prestigious hotel complex, with inside it 4 golf courses for a total of 36 holes, has deliberated to change the structure's current name from Chervò Golf Hotel Spa & Resort San Vigilio to GARDA HOTEL SAN VIGILIO GOLF
"The decision to change part of the name", explains Pietro Apicella, president of SAN VIGILIO R.E. Spa and of the amateur sports association linked to the golf sector, "represents a further and important moment of commercial growth, which gives further strength to the strategy of wanting to contribute to enhancing the structure as well as the entire Garda hinterland area in which our structure is located. With GARDA HOTEL SAN VIGILIO GOLF, it becomes spontaneous in fact, especially for the foreign tourist and golfer, to identify already from the name the marvelous natural context in which our structure is set, and which in these first 15 years of history has seen us committed to an ambitious development project with continuous and important investments. In recent years,' Pietro Apicella continues, 'our facility has been chosen for important corporate events of major companies recognized at world level, but also for major golfing events at international level, such as the 77th Italian Open held in the middle of the Covid period, during which we were able to guarantee the smooth running of the competition on the 'bubble', or the recent European Journalist Team Championships held at the end of October. It was precisely the Nations Cup, also organized with the contribution of the Lombardy Region, that gave further prominence to the Garda region, given the participation of 110 journalists representing 11 nations in the field, with a total of more than 180 guests present throughout the week of the event, including other journalists and accompanying guests.

Portmarnock Golf Links, originally designed in 1995 by the great Bernhard Langer, has completed a multi-million Euro course renovation project which included the ambitious elevation of greens and tees from the eighth hole all the way through its climactic coastal finishing stretch.
The enhancements – led by Jeff Lynch of the innovative and burgeoning golf course design company (re)GOLF – have created a breath-taking back nine (or back ten!) stretch which now takes in picture-postcard views of Portmarnock’s Velvet Strand beach, the expanse of the Irish Sea and the famous uninhabited island which greets visitors as they land into the nearby Dublin airport – known as Ireland’s Eye.
The venue, whose history is inextricably linked to the famous Jameson whiskey dynasty – indeed, many generations of the Jameson family are laid to rest in a graveyard just to the right of the first fairway – is set to wow Irish golfers and international tourists alike as it enters a new chapter in its distinguished history.
Those visiting will also experience a recently-upgraded and award-winning Hotel which blends modern elegance with a fascinating history, encapsulated by the quaint Irish charm of its Jameson Bar – which in 2022 was commended in the Icons of Whisky Ireland Hotel Bar of the Year Awards.
The Hotel provides a perfect base for any golfers hoping to explore the vast array of world-class links courses along the north Dublin golfing coast – including Portmarnock Old Course, The Island and Royal Dublin.

It is true that Madrid has always been one of the most attractive capitals in Europe. But lately, due to the pandemic, it has been perhaps the only one that has remained alive and open. For this
reason, it has become a preferred destination as a symbol and example for the whole world and a great attraction for golf tourists who want to come and play in Madrid and discover its golf
courses.
Not only in Spain, but also in Europe and other countries, the idea that Madrid is a place to be imitated has become popular. We have been the jealousy of many, and the object of desire of almost
everyone.
A place of freedom
Madrid has evolved spectacularly and has become a Destination of Excellence. And with a golf product that is also excellent.
Hotels and restaurants
In the years of the pandemic, five of the world's most important hotel companies opened hotels in Madrid and only in Madrid. Specifically, Four Seasons, Hyatt, Mandarin Oriental, Rosewood and
Marriott. And there are still some properties to be opened.
At the same time, new restaurants of all levels, of all types and trends were opened almost daily. And some classics reopened with the same quality as before, such as the Ritz Hotel, the Zalacaín
or the former Jockey, now called the Saddle.
Markets, bars and taverns
At the same time, more and more Municipal Markets have been created, twenty-three at present, something that no other city in Europe has. And the bars and taverns that have allowed Madrileños and
tourists to come and "tomar cañas" (have a beer) continue to operate.
Golf courses
Madrid has more than 30 golf courses, many of which have seen some of the best players of the European Tour, play on their courses.
There is no doubt that we must highlight the three golf courses that now have an easy access to the golf tourist who comes to Madrid.
All of them can be combined with other courses, fun and everything you want. In Madrid everything is possible.
Musical comedies
In addition to gastronomic culture, Madrid has made a significant step forward in terms of other aspects of culture.
Madrid now has more musical comedies than London. It should be considered that one of the ways in which modern cities demonstrate their vitality is precisely through musical comedies which, in a
way, are a successor and complement to what the world of opera was in its day.
Art, Theatre, Music and Business
Madrid, in addition to maintaining all its museums (some of them of the highest international level), has held, and continues to hold, more art exhibitions in these years of pandemic than many
other major cities. Also in the world of theatre, in addition to all the official theatres that remain open, Madrid currently offers almost more alternative theatre performances than New York,
the city that has always boasted of being the "capital" of theatre.
From a musical point of view, in addition to the Teatro Real de la Ópera, the Auditorio Nacional and many other traditional venues, Madrid has been filled with music on every corner and has
organised music festivals like very few other countries. Even when it comes to football, Madrid has four teams in the first division, something that no other European city has. It has more
football matches and more sporting events than any other city.
And, in recent years, something absolutely unique has happened. A multitude of large, small and medium-sized companies have set up in Madrid, and thousands of jobs have been created. All of this
has been achieved by lowering taxes and favouring the creation of spaces for individual, private and social promotion.
The illusion of being in Madrid: tourists
Madrid has always been a favourite destination for Spaniards from other regions, especially those closest to Madrid. And it has always received a large number of foreigners, although perhaps less
than other cities such as Barcelona. Now things are changing. Madrid has become a place that everyone wants to visit. Spaniards and foreigners alike want to enjoy all its historical, cultural and
gastronomic attractions and, above all, the atmosphere of freedom, happiness and friendliness that the people of Madrid exude. And we attach great importance to the new golf tourist who comes to
discover our golf offer.
Tour Golf Travel is taking remote working to the extreme by sending a section of its sales team to work in the Algarve – to further improve the high-quality of travel advice offered to golf holiday seekers.
The innovative move will allow six sales team members to live and breathe one of the company’s most popular destinations, as experiencing the location will provide an even more knowledgeable service to be passed on to potential travellers.
Known already as the “YGT Six”, the small team will continue to work from sunnier climes throughout the week, while absorbing evening and weekend programmes of activity designed to become fully immersed within the product range and local culture.
Those “YGT Six” are: Jack Deasy, 24 and Ben Gardner, 28, both from Essex, Max Moor-Radford, 28, from Hertfordshire, Jonathan Squibb, 27, from Kent, and finally Joe Hicks, 27, and Craig Martin, 31, from Sussex.
Portugal’s southernmost region is well known for its Atlantic beaches and range of impressive golf facilities and has become a favourite with European tourists who enjoy its unique charm and ease of access.
João Fernandes, President of Algarve Tourism, said: “As a world-leading golf destination, the Algarve is delighted that Your Golf Travel has chosen us to further enhance the team’s knowledge of our unique fairways and venues.”
While in the area, the team will look to gain an intrinsic knowledge of the destination from a golf and leisure aspect, taking in the views from both on and off the golf course.
This will include staying, working and playing in the likes of Boavista Golf & Spa, Dom Pedro in Vilamoura, Castro Marim Golfe and Country Club, as well other outstanding golf venues in the region like Vale do Lobo, NAU resorts, Pestana resorts and Quinta do Lago.
This will translate during the two-month stay into a more detailed knowledge of the Algarve offering, which can be passed on by the sales team to customers who are looking to book their own escape to Portugal.
Your Golf Travel co-founder, Andrew Harding, said: “As Your Golf Travel continues to embrace hybrid working, what better way for our Golf Travel Experts to truly experience one of our top destinations than to live and breathe it daily.
“From spending time with our hotel and golf partners to improving their game after work in the sunshine, this really is an opportunity of a lifetime for our team. “The beginning of 2022 is an immensely exciting period with a series of European Tour events. The Peter Harradine designed course at Al Hamra Golf Club will be a fitting challenge to those playing in the inaugural Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital. Al Hamra has gone from strength to strength. The fact that we have been selected to host such a significant event underlines the impact our talented team has had on this facility. In addition, the international recognition that this tournament brings will deliver visibility to a broad audience and showcase the fantastic experience that Al Hamra Golf Club provides.”
Based in the northern most Emirate in the UAE, Al Hamra Golf Club has risen to prominence thanks to the course's renowned condition and welcoming winter climate. Al Hamra Golf Club continues to welcome visitors and golfers from all over the world, with the eighteen-hole championship course situated within a series of interlinked water features and set against a desert landscape.
Paul Booth, General Manager of Al Hamra Golf Club said: “We are delighted to be working with all of the key stakeholders, the European Tour, Phoenix Capital, RAKTDA, Al Hamra, and Marjan, to showcase the wonderful Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The long-term strategic goal is to make the Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital a steadfast tournament on an expanding Middle East Swing. These are exciting times for Al Hamra Golf Club and Ras Al Khaimah”
Al Hamra Golf Club previously hosted the European Challenge Tour over three consecutive years from 2016 – 2018. It was initially the venue for the Ras Al Khaimah Golf Challenge in 2016 and 2017, before hosting the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge Tour Grand Final as the final stop on the Road to Ras Al Khaimah in 2018.
During the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge Tour Grand Final, Spaniard Adri Arnaus finished one shot clear of France’s Victor Perez, with the pair ending the season in second and third position on the 2018 Challenge Tour Rankings behind Denmark’s Joachim B. Hansen. All three players are now firmly established on the European Tour.
With completely new greens and bunkers, the reopening of the spectacular Europa Course at La Cala Resort in southern Spain marks the completion of a final phase of golf course improvements at the renowned golfing destination. All 54 holes at La Cala have now been upgraded and improved for playability.
Despite the unprecedented nature of the last 18 months and its obvious challenges, La Cala has looked to the future and used the time advantageously to complete significant and impressive course improvements. The resort has finalised renovation works on the stunning Europa Course, as well as putting finishing touches to works on the beautiful Asia course. La Cala is delighted to announce Europa reopens for play on Monday 6th September 2021.
The greens on the Europa course have been changed to Bermuda grass – the same process as was undertaken on the Asia course in 2019. La Cala was the first golf resort on the Costa del Sol to make the change by seeding rather than by sodding. The process on Europa was completed last August so the greens have had a full year to successfully mature and are now rolling beautifully.
One of the biggest benefits of this change of grass type is that it has made La Cala more environmentally sustainable by reducing the amount of water consumption, chemicals and fertilisers, as well as reducing the risk of grass diseases. Overall, it means better and more consistent putting surfaces all year-round.
In addition, new bunkering has been instated across the Europa Course this summer. All bunkers have been renovated or remodelled to be visually more appealing and the sand has been replaced to be consistent with that on the Asia and America courses. It’s of a far higher quality and much more pleasant and fair to play from. There have also been small design changes with some bunker sizes reduced and other unnecessary bunkers removed.
Not only do these alterations improve the aesthetics but there is also a positive environmental impact. The remodelled bunkers are more accessible for the raking machines and require less trimming. This means less machinery and fuel is required during maintenance.
“We are thrilled with the work that has been completed on the Europa Course and are excited to reopen to golfers,” says Director of La Cala Resort, Sean Corte-Real. “The last 18 months has, of course, been challenging for us as it has for so many, but we are delighted to have a positive story to tell. It has allowed us to complete a significant project and to offer a hugely enhanced golfing product. Every cloud has a silver lining.”
On top of the Europa changes, La Cala has also taken the opportunity to further improve playing surfaces on the Asia course. Refurbishments following Storm Filomena in January were completed, while rough and untidy grass areas have been replaced by wood chips and pine needles.
“It makes for a cleaner surface under the trees,” says Corte-Real. “It’s easier to find balls, but most importantly it gets rid of a lot of useless green areas that we now don´t have to mow and water. Imagine the water and fuel saved doing this! We are very conscious of sustainability at La Cala.”
The works to complete the renovations to Europa and to enhance Asia demonstrate the commitment La Cala has to continuously improve the experience for guests. This commitment was evidenced by the fact La Cala was recently ranked by Golf World as the best 4* resort in Spain, with the America and Europa layouts ranked in Spain’s top 30 courses.
Situated in the foothills of the beautiful Mijas Mountains with breath-taking views of the stunning Andalusian countryside, La Cala’s superb 54-hole resort offers an idyllic rural retreat just 20 minutes from Marbella and only 30 minutes from Malaga airport.
The three superb championship courses at La Cala - Campo America, Campo Asia and Campo Europa - each present unique challenges and slot seamlessly into a natural, undulating backdrop of trees and flowers, rich with birds and wildlife. Designed by famous golf course architect Cabell Robinson, each 18-hole layout has been created to ensure a truly exhilarating experience.
La Cala resort boasts accommodation of the highest standard, including a renovated 107-bedroom hotel, plus an on-site Real Estate project with a selection of newly built properties for sale. Residents can enjoy the luxurious spa and a selection of excellent restaurants and bars. There are also further leisure opportunities with a FIFA-standard football pitch, running circuit, gym, tennis and squash courts.
A thousand-year-old natural heritage, the cave was discovered in 1849 almost by chance, hidden in a lime quarry owned by the Giusti family, father of the poet Giuseppe. With the discovery, the Righteous decided to build a spa and in 1880 the Royal Hotel where the Prince of Naples and Giuseppe Verdi who called the cave "the eighth wonder of the world" was inaugurated. The underground environments of the cave - Paradise, Purgatory, Hell - have since attracted guests from all over the world, thanks to the natural thermal environment that allows anthropological care unique on the international scene. Its primitive beauty, characterized by rooms of stalagmites and stalactites, long corridors and a thermal water bath, perfectly embody the hotels ‘mark’ a signature experience that each Autograph Collection hotel offers to leave a lasting imprint on all who stay.
"We are very happy to present this splendid project, the result of intense work that will bring to light a unique jewel of hospitality" – says Marcello Cicalò, Director of Operations of Italian Hospitality Collection. "The collaboration with the prestigious Autograph Collection Hotels by Marriott International makes us proud and confident in being able to guarantee our guests an exclusive and top level wellness experience, maintaining all our Italian identity with a strong emphasis on the most authentic Tuscanness. With Autograph Collection Hotels we will have access to the international distribution channels of the Marriott brand and this will give a very strong impetus and great visibility to the resort of Grotta Giusti but also to the resort of Monsummano Terme, representing an important economic and employment driver for the entire community". Cicalò concludes: "The renovation of Grotta Giusti is part of a multimillion-dollar investment plan that has seen the redevelopment of all the resort's rooms, the bar, restaurants, the freshwater pool in the centuries-old park and the creation of a new spa for hotel guests. Especially in this historical period, Grotta Giusti's project is a great sign of relaunch and development that IHC and its shareholders wanted to give for this 2021. A decisive contribution to reactivating the high-end hotel sector with momentum".
The design philosophy
The redevelopment project of the historic house bears the signature of the architects of Richmond International©, the London firm specialized in the luxuryhôtellerie sector that has always collaborated with the most important international hospitality brands. Richmond's creative concept, inspired by the poetry and natural elements of Grotta Giusti (from the cave to the hot springs, from the centennial park to the Monsummano hill that embraces the resort) combines the finest contemporary design with genius loci. It develops around the theme of Discovery, the discovery of the Cave. The designers in the interior design choices wanted to celebrate the foundation of the hotel, following the important nineteenth-century revelation, and lead guests on a journey to discover Tuscany, its nature and landscape, its workers and local craftsmanship, its unique thermal offer.
The Historical Park
The majestic setting of the 45-hectare park, curated by the renowned landscape architect of the beginning of the last century Pietro Porcinai, houses the freshwater pool with a new bar and restaurant area around it, as well as the tennis court and the life path that winds through the park, revisited with paths among centuries-old trees and lush gardens and trekking paths for excursions in the countryside surrounding the resort. The new "herb garden" will be a central element of the park, used for the cultivation of plants and aromatic herbs that will be used in the kitchen for the creation of culinary specialties related to local products, and to the bar for the creation of cocktails and personalized infusions. An interactive signage system will guide through the different types of plants for a unique and distinctive nature experience

Portugal’s Troia Resort has been voted the country’s best course by National Club Golfer (NCG) in its ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe 2019’ rankings.
The resort has further established itself among Europe’s elite venues by appearing in yet another top 10 ranking – this time rated number seven by NCG.
The news caps off an impressive year for the stunning Trent Jones Senior links – which also made a sensational nine-place climb up to number eight in Golf World’s prestigious top 100 rankings.
Rated five places above its nearest Portuguese rival, the ranking reaffirms that golfers and industry experts are finally taking notice of the resort after, perhaps, being underappreciated due to the exceptional standard of golf courses across the country.
Assessed over nine different categories – design, condition, consistency, setting, playability, challenge, variety, routing and charm – Troia scored an impressive 79 points out of a possible 100, with the magazine’s judging panel scoring the course highly in all criteria.
The par-72 layout stretches 6,317m along the beach, offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Arrábida mountain range throughout the 18 holes.
But it’s not just the picturesque scenery that makes it one of Europe’s best. The challenging and diverse holes test even the top pros, as players are required to play a multitude of shots through a combination of pine trees and indigenous coastal plants, on a course with small, narrow greens and bold bunkering.
When announcing its top 100 rankings, the National Club Golfer judging panel remarked: “Troia offers the feel and look of a classic links and the routing is superb – never losing sight of the sea. And, while it is very difficult, our panel loved the Trent Jones classic. Portugal’s number one.”
Alexandre Barroso, Troia’s golf director, said: “Troia really is a golfing experience like no other and we’re delighted that it’s finally being recognised and rewarded for its special and unique characteristics.
“To appear in our second European top 10 and, of course, be voted the best course in Portugal is a dream come true for everyone involved with the resort, as we all know this is where it deserves to be.
“We invite any golfer from across the world to come and experience it for themselves and discover everything the course and resort has to offer – you won’t be disappointed!”
Located just an hour south of Lisbon on a beautiful sand-skirted peninsula, Troia’s excellent location is just a 15-minute unique ferry ride from Setúbal city centre, which is filled with a wide range of highly regarded and affordable restaurants, and just a short distance from Comporta – one of the trendiest, and most sought-after, destinations for Europe’s travelling cognoscenti.

At nearly 1,640ft above sea level, the location enjoys dramatic views of Madeira's mountainous skyline and the ocean, as well as - nestling below, just 10 minutes away - the island's capital, Funchal.
The original course at Santo da Serra, dating from 1937, was redesigned in 1991 by Robert Trent Jones Snr, who created a new and spectacular 27-hole complex. The third and fourth holes of the Machico course are regarded as the signature holes, sitting atop cliffs more than 2,200ft above sea level, providing views of the bay of Machico, where Portuguese navigators first landed in 1419.
Madeira, also known as ‘the islands of eternal spring', has a population of only 260,000. On the same latitude as Morocco, the Atlantic archipelago has a sub-tropical climate, a rich volcanic soil and a unique eco-system. It is one of the only places in the planet where banana trees grow next to vineyards.
In 1999 the archipelago was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and five areas have been declared nature reserves. The Madeira Nature Reserve covers a substantial two-thirds of the main island, where development is prohibited.

The cream of Italian golf is hoping that a return to Sicily will help inspire them to success in front of their home fans when they take part in the 2018 Rocco Forte Sicilian Open at Verdura Resort this month.
Defending champion Alvaro Quirós, European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjørn and 2012 Sicilian Open champion Thorbjørn Olesen are among the names already confirmed for the event – which will take place from May 10-13 – but they will face a strong Italian challenge headed by Matteo Manassero, Nino Bertasio and Edoardo Molinari.
Manassero has won four European Tour titles to date and became the youngest winner in European Tour history after lifting the 2010 Castello Masters aged just 17 years and 188 days.
Bertasio is currently ranked inside the top 65 of this season’s Race to Dubai after becoming an established member of the European Tour in the last three years while Molinari remains a hugely popular figure in Italian golf after a memorable career – which included representing Europe alongside his brother Francesco at The 2010 Ryder Cup.
“I think that it’s a great event to play in for everybody. Verdura is such a great place and we all love it there. It’s also a great course and if the wind blows it will be really tough. As many times as we play in Italy I’m always happy and Sicily will be great,” said Manassero.
Quirós described Verdura Resort as “paradise” on his way to a sudden death play-off victory in the inaugural Rocco Forte Sicilian Open last year, and Bertasio and Molinari can’t wait for the
opportunity to return to the exclusive venue.
Bertasio said: “We’ll be staying in resort on-site which is beautiful, and I think it is a fun golf course as well.
Obviously, it needs a bit of wind otherwise it’s going to be another five-under-par cut like last year, but it’s a great place.”
Molinari added: “Sicily is always a fun week. The resort is fantastic and the weather is always great. It is a great week to go out with the family play the tournament and relax a little bit.”
The 2018 Rocco Forte Sicilian Open will again be staged on one of the most spectacular and picturesque courses on the European Tour calendar, with a composite course combining the finest holes from the venue’s two 18-hole championship courses, the East Course and West Course.
Measuring 7,217 yards, the par-71 lay-out will comprise of nine holes each from the two Kyle Phillips-designed courses and will include one of the most dramatic finishes in world tournament golf, with the final six holes running adjacent to the coast and set against the magnificent backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea.
Nestling on the coast in 230 hectares of stunning landscape, Verdura Resort – a Rocco Forte hotel and European Tour destination – is ideal for a golf break and features two outstanding 18-hole championship courses – the East Course and West Course – as well as a par-three nine-hole course, all designed by Kyle Phillips.
Complementing Verdura Resort’s outstanding golf courses are extensive golf practice facilities including a double-ended driving range and outstanding academy. In addition, guests can enjoy numerous other sports and leisure amenities including six tennis courts, an array of different watersports, a 170sqm fully-equipped gym and an award-winning 4,000sqm spa complex with thalassotherapy pools.
Situated on Sicily’s southern coast between Agrigento and the fishing city of Sciacca, an 80-minute drive from Trapani and Palermo airports, the resort features 203 rooms, suites and villas all with a sea view, as well as three new villas which offer a perfect solution for family holidays, each with its own private swimming pool.
Serving up a mixture of sunny skies, a temperate climate and breathtaking scenery, combined with a plethora of historical, cultural and gastronomic delights, Sicily has all the ingredients for a relaxing break, and Verdura Resort is the ideal base to discover this authentic part of the Mediterranean’s largest island.
There’s something truly magical about the volcanic island of Mauritius. At first glance, this magic is created by the unbelievable surrounds; vivid green blankets of sugar cane and tropical forests, ancient undulating volcanic terrain, idyllic golden beaches lapped by pristine azure waters and a host of endemic bird and animal life—it’s the epitome of a tropical paradise. But it has so much more than its natural beauty; the vibrant and friendly local people, the eclectic culture, sensational food, exciting festivals and the island’s fascinating history all make Mauritius an unforgettable holiday destination for those looking for immersive and authentic experiences that create memories that will last a lifetime.
If novel experiences are important to you when you travel, then there is a truly remarkable offering on Ile aux Cerfs that may be right up your alley; a stay at their exclusive eco-friendly Bubble Lodge on the esteemed island itself. Is your interest piqued? Then this is what you need to know:
It’s the only accommodation on Ile aux Cerfs
Ile aux Cerfs - which lies just off east of Mauritius - is a sensational haven for day trip revellers and golfing fans from around the globe. And one of the best things about this island is that it doesn’t have expansive areas covered in accommodation marring the islands natural beauty. In fact, the newly introduced Bubble Lodges are the first and only accommodation on the island itself which means that staying in one of them is a truly unique and exclusive experience. What’s more, there are only three Bubble Lodges in total, meaning that you will practically have the iconic island of Ile aux Cerfs to yourself in the evenings (apart from the other guests and Ile aux Cerfs’ security that is). If you are wondering if this would be a luxury castaway experience unlike any other, the answer is a definitive yes.
It feels as if you are staying in a normal hotel room - but even better
If you are worried that staying in a Bubble Lodge will be like camping or even “glamping”, the good news is; it’s nothing of the sort. In fact, staying in a Bubble Lodge on Ile aux Cerfs has all the bells and whistles of a luxury hotel room but you get to enjoy an extra element of privacy and the rare opportunity to be in the heart of Ile aux Cerfs’ gorgeous natural surrounds. The elegant Bubble Lodges are extremely comfortable and surprisingly spacious, with a lounge area and a small bathroom (there’s an outdoor shower with warm water) and the main areas have air-conditioning. Each unit has been tastefully decorated to blend in with the unique surrounds.
Each Bubble Lodge has its own personal butler
To ensure that your experience is all the more extraordinary at Ile aux Cerfs’ Bubble Lodges, each one has their own personal butler. The Bubble Lodge butlers go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is everything you could have dreamed of (and more!). If you need anything—such as a golf cart to go to the clubhouse or would like to request a special dinner—your butler will be on hand to help you.
Breakfast & dinner is included in the rate
When you book a once-in-a-lifetime stay in one of the magical Bubble Lodges, the room rate includes half board, with breakfast and dinner typically being served in the golf course clubhouse. However, if you are celebrating a special occasion, then you can arrange that your dinner is served somewhere truly remarkable for a night to remember (such as on the beach or in the garden of the big Banyan tree - if this is the Bubble Lodge you are staying in). Your butler will ensure that an amazing dinner is served with an equally memorable setup. Ile aux Cerfs has five restaurants to choose from giving you more than enough choice for outstanding lunches spent on this iconic island.
Looking to play some golf? Stay in a Bubble Lodge and the golf is complimentary
If you and/or your partner are interested in an exceptional game of golf on the fabled Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club, then all the more reason to book a stay in one of the exclusive luxury Bubble Lodges. As a Bubble Lodge guest, you will enjoy numerous benefits such as the use of the private beach, Filibusters, and complimentary games of golf on the remarkable championship golf course designed by Bernhard Langer. For an avid golfer, there’s nothing more special than being able to embrace this iconic golfing island to the fullest and feel even if only for a second - as if it was your very own. To book, send an email to infogolf@iacgolf.mu.
The Bubble Lodge has been created with the environment in mind
The Bubble Lodges on Ile aux Cerfs have been created to have minimal impact on the environment which makes them fantastic eco-friendly options. In order to build each Bubble Lodge, the use of minimal materials and energy is required, which contrasts starkly with the incredible amount of concrete, wood and other materials used to build any conventional hotel room (a normal room uses approximately 10 000 times more materials that needed to create a Bubble Lodge). Because each Bubble Lodge uses so few materials, very little energy is needed to create them as well as transport them (the units come from France), resulting in minimal CO2 emissions in the creation of the lodge. What’s more, each unit only uses 90watts a day, with additional energy usage from the air-conditioning which is only used when necessary.
But those are not the only ways the Bubble Lodges at Ile aux Cerfs are eco-friendly. Because of their incredible design, no flora and fauna were disturbed or destroyed in their creation (the idea is that each Bubble Lodge becomes a part of the natural surrounds) and because of their lightweight design, there was no need for invasive concrete foundations. This also makes the Bubble Lodges a wonderful option for the naturally beautiful island because one day, if they are discontinued, they can be easily dismantled and taken away (this can actually be done by one person), leaving no mark of their existence behind. And the best bit? All the materials from the Bubble Lodge are completely recyclable and they can be repurposed to make a new lodge using the same materials elsewhere.
It’s perfect for nature lovers
On top of being eco-friendly, each Bubble Lodge on Ile aux Cerfs is strategically situated in its own secluded part of the island - away from any of the day guests and wonderfully removed from any other guests staying on the island. One is situated in the middle of an old Banyan tree and the other two are located on the exclusive Filibusters beach. Whether you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of the ocean or while watching for shooting stars, merely crave the gentle sounds of nature at night or would love the peaceful experience of staying in a Bubble Lodge while watching and listing to the rain, one thing is for sure, a stay in a Bubble Lodge on Ile aux Cerfs will allow you to connect fully with the stunning surrounds of this tropical oasis.
If you would like to experience a stay at the Bubble Lodge on Ile aux Cerfs, or simply would like more information, than you can get in touch with the golf club directly. One thing is for sure, a stay in a Bubble Lodge on Ile aux Cerfs promises to be a magnificent experience that will stay with you for the rest of time.
Nordic music and exotic dance performances await visitors to the Grand Finale of the World’s Largest Travel Trade Show® – admission is free for holders of a visitor’s ticket on the Sunday of ITB
A spectacular conclusion to the World’s Largest Travel Trade Show®: the ITB Grand Finale on Sunday, 11 March 2018 will be the official final event of ITB Berlin, featuring dance performances from Zambia, Malaysia and the Dominican Republic. From 3.30 to 5 p.m., together with a host of different cultures, exhibitors, guests and visitors will be celebrating a spectacular ending to the 52nd ITB Berlin. Mary Amiri, the award-winning event and television presenter, will moderate the colourful programme of events which is traditionally organised by exhibitors. Admission is free for holders of a visitor’s ticket on the Sunday of the show.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, this year’s partner country of ITB Berlin, will bring events to a close in a maritime atmosphere with the all-male shanty choir ‘Plauer See’. Visitors are expressly invited to sing and join in. The tiny nation of Estonia will be represented with Nordic music. The eight-member female group ‘Naized’, founded in 2006, will sing a selection of traditional Estonian folk songs.
As well as to Nordic regions, the Grand Finale will also be taking visitors on a trip to exotic countries, for example Zambia, this year’s Culture & Convention Partner of ITB Berlin. The flowing movements of its traditional dance performances reflect the many different cultures of this African nation. The Kecak, a traditional dance from Indonesia, will have visitors longing for faraway destinations. It is one of Bali’s most famous artistic creations, and with its delicate hand movements the dance is also an expression of Hindu mythology.
Towards the end of the Grand Finale 2018 visitors can look forward to the ceremonial ‘passing of the baton’ from one partner country, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, to another, Malaysia, the partner country of ITB Berlin 2019. This country in southeastern Asia will be whetting visitors’ appetites with traditional music and dance performances for next year’s visit to the World’s Largest Travel Trade Show®.
The Delphic Games: a global stage for art and cultures
Ever since 2010 ITB Berlin has been organising the ITB Grand Finale in cooperation with the International Delphic Council (IDC), a global cultural organisation. The Delphic Games, which it organises, are literally the sister event of the Olympics. Just as fire stands for the Olympic Games, so their defining symbol is water. In ancient Greece the Delphic Games took place regularly for almost 1,000 years, always in the year preceding the Olympic Games. Nowadays, different venues host the Delphic Games and Delphic Youth Games every four years.
Over the past 12 months The R&A has been undertaking an in-depth review of all ticketing and hospitality operations and processes, including our relationships with third-party agents, tour operators and travel agents.
Our objectives of this review have been to:
The R&A is introducing two new programmes for the sale of official tickets and hospitality packages for The 148th Open at Royal Portrush in 2019 which reflect these objectives.
Programmes:
The introduction of the two new programmes means that any third party wishing to resell official hospitality packages to The Open or include official tickets or hospitality packages in their own products for sale must join one of the above two programmes.
Each of the two new programmes will have two levels, Gold and Silver, for third parties to join and they offer a range of benefits and requirements. Please also find the link to the AUTHORISED PROVIDER PROGRAMME APPLICATION FORM (46kb DOCX).
Please note that any third party who does not wish to join either of the two programmes will not be permitted to purchase tickets or hospitality packages for onward sale.
Please note this does not mean your clients can not attend as part of their trip. They can still purchase the tickets or hospitality packages directly from The R&A.
The above changes will come into effect immediately for The 148th Open at Royal Portrush and applications for the new R&A Authorised Provider Programmes are currently being accepted.
