The PGA was back in Greensboro, North Carolina to play the regular season ending Wyndham Championship August 1-4, before the FedEx Cup playoffs. How often do you read
about the famous golf destinations in North Carolina? The Grandover Golf Resort & Conference Center belongs on the A-list of golf resorts in the state, welcoming guests since the turn of the
century and just went through an extensive $10 million renovation in 2017 including its 244 guest rooms.
Greensboro feels like a small town, but hosts the third oldest PGA TOUR event, first played in 1938 and won by 'Slammin' Sam Snead eight times. This year it celebrated its 80th anniversary.
Grandover's practice range is used by the players competing in the Wyndham at neighboring Sedgefield Country Club, the only Donald Ross design still used as a TOUR location. However, Greensboro
is not a One Course Town!
Grandover's two 18 hole courses are top notch. Both were designed by ASGCA member Gary Panks with the assistance of player consultant Australian David Graham, the only two Panks creations in
North Carolina. Golf at the pubic golf club is complete with excellent practice facilities, lessons from PGA instructors, fun golf outings, plenty of services for charity tournaments and
affordable golf. Players can join the Griffin Club, named for the Grandover's symbolic figure, for a nominal fee and enjoy reduced rates and other year-round benefits when visiting the
resort.
The West course is formed with the naturally rolling terrain and elevation changes in the Piedmont of the Tar Heel State. A links style layout flows out from the resort for the first nine
and turns back for the inward 9, measuring 6800 yards from the championship tees. The East is the longer of the two stretching out over 7,000 yards and more forgiving particularly off the tee
box. The 12th hole on East, a memorable par 3 with tees from 125 yards down to 60, has a creek fronting a three-tiered green with a pot bunker accepting wayward shots. Good luck!
One of North Carolina's premier conference centers, Grandover has been designed to function as a first class meeting venue to suit all sizes of meetings and events. The resort has a full staff to
make your next happening the very best.
Whether you need a romantic getaway, an escape to world class golf or lavish pampering at the Grandover Spa & Fitness Center, the resort offers great packages complete with luxurious
accommodations as well as sumptuous dining. For the ultimate Triad experience, you will find all you need to create an unforgettable getaway at Grandover Golf Resort & Conference
Center.
